Se anunciaron hoy los candidatos que participarán de la entrega número 81 de los premios Oscar.

El anuncio fue realizado por Forrest Whitaker (Last King of Scotland) junto al director de la academia, Sid Ganis frente a la prensa internacional a las 5 de la mañana, hora de Los Angeles. Las mayores sorpresas fueron las omisiones de Gran Torino, Che y The Wrestler de las categorías de mejor película y mejor director, aunque esta última logro una merecida nominación para Mickey Rourke como mejor actor.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, protagonizada por Brad Pitt, recibió un total de 13 nominaciones, entre ellas mejor director, mejor película y mejor actor principal siendo seguida por Slumdog Millionaire con 10 y Milk y The Dark Knight con ocho cada una.

Heath Ledger recibió su primer nominación póstuma, como mejor actor de reparto por su rol de Joker en The Dark Knight. El anuncio se realizó cuando ha transcurrido exactamente un año despúes de que el actor fuese encontrado muerto por una sobredosis accidental de medicamentos en su departamento de New York.
